You see he’s got his passion and ‘baby’ so to speak…Trading. He’s a Market Index Trader. Constantly looking at charts, riding the highs and lows, reacting to the latest news and other variables of the day. I don’t understand it, I don’t get it but it makes him happy. So it makes me happy.
He’s spent years watching me invest in property. Buy, renovate, manage the builders (often problematic at times), overhearing me spend hours speaking to brokers, agents, solicitors, etc.
He only ever intervenes to offer guidance when I need it. Or if he feels I need to pull back on the workload/ risk etc. So him being involved in this project was a shock to me. You see HE found this house after randomly scrolling through Rightmove (for some strange reason) and analysing the floor plan.

It had been sitting on the market for a while, and he kept saying ‘it’s a great deal’ that he liked it and we should view it. He persuaded me to view it with him and off we went. I didn’t like it, but i could see he was falling in love with it so I said, you’ve got the vision, I’ll negotiate it, buy it and YOU run with it, right?
He hesitantly agreed to do it out of love for me. (Awww.) Although in reality, I think he just liked the house. We completed on it bought it in January 2019. On Friday we finished. He managed to complete it in 4 months!! It was also the smoothest project to date! The builders loved him and the finish is flawless!!!
You can’t do it alone– This project is the result of an awesome power team, consisting of Brokers, Solicitors, architects, a build team of various trades, project manager (in this case my darling hub), Financial manager, and interior designer, (me) lol. The sooner you acknowledge you’re not good at everything and push other people to the forefront, the better.
Communication – We created a system with our builder that worked, whereby things were ordered to site in a methodical way meaning the project didn’t have to halt.- The only time this happened was for the steel beams for the overhung roof, the fabrication took longer than anticipated (you live and you learn right?)
Financial Management– Cost control is so important, and I have headed up the CFO role on this one. I think it’s important to be able to sit down weekly and keep a track of things along with receipt management etc.
So this is our last big one for the year, we love to travel as a family and we’ll be gone for the whole summer soon to our favorite place in Thailand, along with somewhere else still undecided, perhaps Vietnam, Cambodia, Maldives… We’ll see. Any suggestions? Let me know.
